Release
Yahoo! Messenger was originally launched under the name Yahoo! Pager on March 9, 1998. The first version of yahoo messenger for windows was version 1.0 and it was released on March 9, 1998.

User Chat Rooms
The User’s ability to create their own chat rooms (also known as user rooms) was disabled without any advance warnings on June 19, 2005. The company claims to be still working on a way to allow users to create their own rooms while providing safeguards against abuse.

Captcha
It is reportedly estimated as of 2007 that of all users using chat rooms, at least 60% of them are bots. In order to filter out the bots from joining its rooms, Yahoo had introduced the word verification (CAPTCHA) system in August 2007 in Yahoo! Chat. Officially, this system was launched to guard against spammers and automated bots and has caused a lot of frustration for its Human chatters. This method has proved to be rather unsuccessful as it has done little to stop the problem and has rather caused much inconvenience to its human users and also seen to have led to much more bots being present than users in rooms.

Yahoo! with Live Messenger
The interoperability service between two messenger services, Yahoo! And Microsoft was launched on July 12, 2006.This service allowed Yahoo! and Windows Live Messenger users to chat to each other without the need to create an account on the other service, provided both contacts use the latest versions of the clients.

Yahoo Profiles
The community of the Yahoo! Profiles rolled out its new “beta” profile network on October 16, 2008 without any prior announcement. Yahoo Booters
Yahoo Booters are third party software’s that use packet coding to be sent to the victim’s computer by using yahoo messenger. These packet codes contain some information and codes that will be incomprehensible to the victim’s computer and hence results in the hanging of the computer or the victim getting disconnected from the yahoo messenger as well as the internet. Further these codes can also result in the victim’s messenger being closed through the presence of thousands of IM messengers on their screen which is being sent from different yahoo Ids.

Client third party softwares have been used to log on yahoo chat rooms.
